Fashion Agony has been on the blogging radar since 2010. Sleek outfits perfectly tuned in the latest trends and quality photographs that could have jumped out straight from the pages of a glossy fashion magazine keep readers coming back to Nika Huk’s blog for more inspiration. A freelance interpreter, stylist and regular contributor to fashion magazines in her country, Nika provides style advice and shopping tips through her sophisticated picks and personal style.
What inspired you to start your own blog?
I always loved everything about the internet, and I had been blogging before, but it had nothing to do with fashion. I decided to start my own style blog the moment I accidentally bumped into a fashion blog back in 2010, and I have never regretted my decision.
How important is the name of the blog?
If you’re serious about blogging, the blog name eventually becomes your brand, so you might want to take that extra minute to come up with a name that you won’t be ashamed of in the future.
How difficult is it to find a blog niche?
This totally depends on the blogger’s personality; while it can be super easy for some, others may have a trouble committing to one style or topic. I don’t think I ever had or ever will have a specific niche, neither do most of my favorite bloggers. So maybe finding a niche for your blog isn’t something you should focus too much on.
What is the best way to promote and grow your blog?
It goes without saying that your content must be of high quality and unique so that it’s worth sharing. If you already have that, the best ways to promote your website are social networks, communities, like Lookbook, where fashion bloggers can get a lot of exposure, SEO techniques that make your blog easy to find on Google, and definitely collaborations with brands that can give you additional exposure.
What is your main audience and how did you reach out to them?
My main audience is women aged from 18 to 35, who obviously can’t live without shopping. I grow my audience using all of the above-mentioned tools.
How important is it for your business to attend fashion week?
Attending major fashion weeks makes you look like a top fashion blogger. You can get into the street-style sections of magazines and build relationships with brands. I’d have to say it’s pretty important for your blog.
What are the best tips for building long-term relationships and partnerships with brands?
To build a strong relationship with a brand you’ll need to be true to yourself, be available for communication, deliver high-quality imagery and meet the brand’s expectations, in general. Brands I’m working with also appreciate my personal opinions and some even take them into account when adding new collections to their websites or styling the lookbooks.
What is the biggest challenge about running a blog?
If you’re blogging for a long time, it’s hard to always stay inspired. Posting consistently is crucial, and that means no real vacations or days off. Also, remember you’ll be criticized for whatever you do, so it’s important to keep the perspective and love what you’re doing.
What advice would you give to anyone looking to start a blog today?
Starting a blog in 2015 is difficult. The blogosphere is very competitive nowadays so being super unique and smart about promoting your blog are the only ways you can get through the noise of thousands of bloggers. Also, don’t start a blog because you’re bored or because everyone else has a blog – it’s important to do it for the right reasons.
What are your ultimate plans for your blog/blogging career?
Growing my blog numbers, working with famous magazines and big brands, designing my own clothing line – things that any blogger is secretly hoping to achieve.
