It is essay writing time, and I am massively struggling. I am really bad at getting into writing my essays, so bad that I had to go to see my english tutor about how to get better grades and plan my essays better. So I thought I would share it with you as it was really helpful!
He basically told me to plan my time. I was advised to plan my time around my essay. He advised me to set myself a few hours a day to do a few tasks. You only need to spend about three hours a day, because it is way too hard to do it if you do too much work, it becomes boring, spending 9 hours in the library is not going to be fun, and you will just get distracted. Plan your time - this is going to be the most important thing. You'll need a few days for some of the tasks, especially the writing part!
The first thing you need to spend a few hours doing is: Raiding the library, and then also checking online for articles, on google scholar and jstor. Your university has an account on jstor so you'll be able to get on it and find relevant articles on there.
The next thing you'll have to do is make notes from the text, so in my case I had to make notes from my text, and find quotes that seem relevant to the essay title. After that you need to make notes from the articles you have found, and the secondary reading you have done. Getting all of your quotes ready makes the planning part a lot easier.
Now is the time to plan your essay, sit down and plan your essay paragraph by paragraph. You can plan it on your computer or on paper, whatever is easier for you. It is really good to have all of your quotes on your screen, and usually have two or more quotes from the book in this paragraph to support your article.
Now it is time to write the essay, this is the worst bit ever. It takes the longest and is the most boring part of the essay sitch. But if you divide your time up so that you don't have to spend ages all at once sitting down and writing the essay then you'll find it much easier to write!
Once you have finished writing the essay, you need to leave it alone for at least 24 hours, then you can go back to it, and read it through, make sure your argument actually makes sense and that its not a pile of rubbish!
I hope this has been a little helpful, it was quite helpful for me tooooo!muchos loveysabelle xxxxxx
