Hi Everyone,
Now that the race is rapidly approaching (about 60 days away) the blog will be receiving weekly updates from the three major engineering teams, Mechanical, Race, and Electrical.
First off Id like to comment on how much dedication and perseverance this team has shown putting this car together over the past year and a half (has it really been that long? whoa...) and just recently we have got the car (Axiom) in running condition.
We took Axiom out into lot #10 for preliminary testing just last weekend and with only a few minor electrical problems the drivers of Axiom logged in several hours each driving the car. I'm sure the race team and Mechanical team can fill in everyone of the other details of this event but I will be focusing on the electrical side of things...
It turns out that one of the minor electrical issues we we're having had to do with the BPS (Battery Protection System). The BPS was shutting down the car when under hard acceleration or quick toggling of the controls. It turns out that electrical noise was interfering with some of the sensitive measurement electronics on board (battery current, battery voltages, and battery temperature) which then caused the BPS to shut down the car.
The electrical team has since fixed this bug and the BPS will be ready to go again shortly!
See you next week!
