When Jessica Thornton (who blogs over at Meet the Magnolias) asked me to take part in this blog tour, I said, "Sure!" because I love these "share the love", community-building kinds of posts. (Speaking of community, Jessica helps me out over at Mississippi Women Bloggers by managing our Instagram and Pinterest, for which I thank her very much!)
1. What am I working on? Too much. Not enough.
Too much of what I have to do, and not enough of what I want to do. But when I do get to work on what I really want to do, it involves photography, graphic design, and writing a book. Oh, yeah, and this here blog of mine.
2. How does my work differ from others of its genre? Genre. I'm not sure exactly what "genre" this blog fits in, if any. I'm a parent, so there are some mom stories and experiences here. I'm also a full-time working professional woman, so that's also represented. I'm a Christian, and I hope that comes through. No two people are alike, so no two blogs are alike. Life can be messy, beautiful, tragic, wonderful, complicated, simple, frustrating, and meaningful all at the same time.
3. Why do I write/create what I do? I write because when I go for long periods without writing, I don't feel like myself. It's like I need to do it for my health. I feel the same way about graphic design, and have goals of sharing more of that work on my blog in the future. The creation of "something" is fulfilling and at times cathartic.
As far as blogging, I am particularly enjoying the sense of community I have found because of it. I've made connections that have proved to be priceless, even though I may never meet some of these people in person.
4. How does your writing/creating process work?
Basically, I'm always writing in my mind, whether it's for a blog post or a page of a book. I have been known to dictate my thoughts via Siri so I won't forget them. I keep a journal and a pen in my purse. I always have a way to write down things as they hit, and I think that helps keep things sounding fresh, rather than trying to think back later, "Now, what was that thought I had and can I recreate it?"Next Sunday, August 10, be sure to visit Rachel and Kelly and read their posts!
