BLACKOUT #3 Review

Posted on the 27 May 2014 by Geekasms @geekasms

Thus far in Blackout:

Scott Travers’ special suit lets him move in and out of our dimension—but he doesn’t know where “Blackout” came from! While searching for his missing benefactor, Robert “Uncle Bob” Marshall, Scott tangles with operatives from high-tech company Mechatronics combing the wreckage of Uncle Bob’s lab. Scott manages to escape and focuses on a mission to the Mechatronics facility, where Scott/Blackout barely escaped with his life just days before. And at Mechatronics, mysterious agents arrive to take control of a new weapons system, cybernetic combat suits of lethal power. The plan is to use the suits to capture the Blackout tech, but that may never happen, as Scott is at death’s edge on an ill-advised training session!

Now that Scott is stuck in the “Blackout”, he needs to find his way out somehow. He pulls out a fully charged cell phone and suddenly the battery becomes drained. The suit becomes charged and is able to get out of the darkness. He concludes with Ash that the suit absorbs energy to make it work. Now that he has a handle on how the suit works, he heads back to Mechatronics to find some answers. Another fight breaks out and some more cheesy lines are dropped while attacking. He puts his suit to use here but gets a bit interrupted by that big cybernetic combat suit. He handles that one but can he handle 2 more at the same time?

The book reads very quickly. It is almost wrapped up as there is only one more issue in this short run. I wouldn’t say it is a bad series so far but it isn’t mind blowing. I could see this as a game. A bit of Portal mixed with some Metal Gear and Metroid. That might be cool to see. The art in the book is pretty good. It has a nice style especially combined with the colors. Being mostly done by the same artist, that helps. I hope the last chapter concludes this story up some as I would like some questions answered.
