Big Face Painting

By Kathybarbro @KathyBarbro
Big Face Painting Want to fall in love with kid’s art? Try this project (see drawing tutorial HERE) with some really bright watercolors, crayons and markers, and see what happens. The younger the student the better. This painting, made by a kinder named Summer, just takes my breath away. I could look at it all day.
1. I started with reading the Eric Carle book “The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse”. It encourages students to use colors that they like, not necessarily ones they think are appropriate.
2. Students traced their drawing with a chisel tip black marker. The thick black lines really make a difference.
3. Crayons were used to ONLY make decorations: lines, patterns, etc. No solid coloring.
4. The art was finished with liquid watercolor paint.
