With the Bib and Tucker Bourbon 10 Years we’re looking at one major question: how much of a difference does 4 years make? Earlier we tasted the Bib and Tucker Bourbon 6 yo and discovered it was more than just a great looking bottle, they’re also sourcing some good tasting whiskey. Something that’s harder than it sounds so kudos to them on striking a good partnership with their source… whoever it is (cough Dickel cough).

In the world of bourbon 4 years is a long time, by many distiller’s standards it’s the bare minimum age for decent whiskey and it’s the bare minimum age for a straight bourbon to not require an age statement. That’s a lot of potential for maturity, depth and complexity to develop… but did it?

To create its singular flavor profile, we double-distill it and choose not to chill-filter as is traditional with Tennessee Bourbons. Combining traditional rick houses and Level 1 char palletized barrels for aging provides a high level of wood contact and yet keeps the vanilla and oak influence subtle. Tasting Notes

EYE
Caramel

NOSE
Oaky, leathery, dark fruit, chestnuts, copper, roasted grain, cocoa and a touch of herbally menthol, copper and Twizzlers.

PALATE
Oak, leather, hazelnuts, brown sugar, spice, dark fruit, cocoa, dried corn, some copper, Twizzlers and earthy warmth.

FINISH
Medium-long -> Oak, dried dark fruit, copper, butterscotch, spice and orchard fruit.

BALANCE, BODY and FEEL
Great sense of balance, medium-full body and a lightly oiled feel.

Bib and Tucker Bourbon 10 Years – Overall

Aroma sits warm and heavy with a solid plank of oak to support and serve up the dynamic aroma that ranges from fruity sweet to earthy and coppery; Palate has even more going on with a wider array of fruit and dessert sweets combined with earthier and more metallic notes, but again, all served on a solid hunk of oak; Finish seems to pull back from the richness a bit, but it’s still a nice sweet and spicy fade.

I’m really enjoying this whiskey, it’s tough to not open it every evening.

Bib and Tucker Bourbon 10 Years – Final Thoughts and Score

George Dickel, uh I mean, Tennessee Whiskey fans rejoice because there is a heavily oaked Bourbon on the market that doesn’t lose its TN soul to the gods of the forest. This is a good whiskey but when I taste stuff this good that’s been cut, I can’t help but wonder what sort of magnificence it could have been at cask strength.

I know “Tennessee Bourbon” does very well at higher proofs and you can get some jammy profiles in older, high proofed, GDs so I’m hoping there’s something in the works to go along those lines. But for now, this Bib and Tucker Bourbon 10 Years is hitting the spot and sits oh so nicely in my belly while sitting on my porch and watching the sunset.
