Best Ways to Prevent a Leaky Diaper

Your adult diaper is supposed to provide you protection and a sense of security wherever you go and whatever you’re doing. But sometimes your diaper will leak, causing you to not only become embarrassed but sport the telltale urine spot before you get a chance to go home and change into fresh clothing. Fortunately there are some simple measures you can take to prevent your diaper from failing you:

  1. Change your brief in a timely manner. This is an obvious solution, but sometimes people wait too long to change before their diaper starts to leak. It’s best to change as soon as possible when you’ve released a lot of urine, as this will prevent diaper leaks and prevent any diaper rashes that may develop.
  2. Make sure you’re wearing the appropriate diaper for your incontinence needs. This mainly refers to the size and absorbency of the diaper. If you’re wearing a brief that is too small or too large for your body, your diaper will most likely leak. Similarly, if you have a large urine output or have little to no control over your bladder, it’s best to wear a diaper with a high absorbency.
  3. Tranquility Booster Pads

  4. Wear a booster pad. This is a great way to extend the absorbency of a disposable or washable undergarment you’re already wearing. Also known as doublers, booster pads are ideal for nighttime incontinence, long road trips, plane rides, or in situations where you’re unable to change for several hours. If you are a male, position the pad towards the front; if you’re a female, position the pad towards the back. Our most popular booster pad is the Tranquility Booster Pad, which offers an extra 5.7 oz. to 27.5 oz. of absorbency.
  5. Look for an adult brief with standing leg guards. This feature will greatly reduce the chances of your diaper leaking. Several briefs with leg cuffs include: Tranquility Premium Daytime underwear, Molicare briefs, and Depend Real Fit.

Every body is unique, so you’ll need to try out different techniques to find out which will best keep your diaper from leaking. If you have other suggestions for preventing leaking diapers, please let us know in the comments below!
