Girl on the River will be Girl on the Couch tonight, glued to the BBC’s perfectly timed Olympic drama, Bert & Dickie, starring Matt Smith (aka Dr. Who) and Sam Hoare, which recounts the true story of British rowers Bert Bushnell and Dickie Burnell in the 1948 London Olympics (8.30 p.m., BBC1).
Anyone who reads their copy of Rowing & Regatta magazine will already have seen my interviews with Sam Hoare (who plays Dickie), Ross Hunter (who was body double to Matt Smith) and screenwriter William Ivory.
Sadly I wasn’t invited to the premiere at Leander (I must do something about the company I keep) so can only show you the trailer. If you have a rummage on YouTube you’ll also be able to find footage of the boys on set, plus a cheeky video of them capsizing.
It all looks a bit cheesy, but I’m always partial to a bit of Cheddar so I can’t wait to see it tonight. Let me know what you think, won’t you?
