I’m not sure why but Matchbox 20 was never a band I could get into. I’m all about vocals and if I’m not crazy about the singer’s voice, I can never find an interest in the music. That’s the case with Rob Thomas but I wanted to post this song because I heard it on the radio a few days ago and the lyrics stayed with me…

Bent was released as a single in July of 2000 from the band’s second album, Mad Season. It went to #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Pop Songs. It also went to #1 on Canada’s Top Singles and Alternative 30.

In an interview with Billboard magazine, lead singer Rob Thomas described it as

My interpretation of the song is about a man who was insecure about his relationship. He obviously has other demons as well and is desperate for help to make it through. However, the girl in the relationship also has her share of problems. “You’re breaking me in and this is how we will end, with you and me bent.”

I don’t know about you but I don’t think this song sounds “hopeful” at all…as Rob put it. Do you?
