I started a new job recently. And while there is a lot I’m still learning and there are definitely things I’m not perfect at, I try every day to be the person I most want to emulate – the incomparable Leslie Knope.
This lady is the greatest (if you’ve never watched Parks & Recreation, you should probably get on that.) Leslie reminds me that I am capable of anything, and that if I put my mind (and my binders) to work, I can accomplish all that I dream to accomplish.
One of the greatest things about Parks & Recreation is that I identify a little with each character. And so sometimes, when I need a reminder that I can be amazing, I curl up and watch a few episodes.
Ron Swanson, despite his utter distaste for everything government, reminds me that I should put my whole ass into something. This is additionally funny because my Grandmother’s maiden name was Butt, so I’m already a Quarter-Butt. Which means putting my whole ass into something shouldn’t be too hard.
Chris Traeger is the epitome of someone who loves themselves. He loves himself so much he literally cannot handle it sometimes. I actually really love Chris because he’s so positive and enthusiastic, and when he finally realizes that he might have faults, he admits them and works to fix them. What a rockstar.
Ann Perkins is a beautiful flower who makes lives better. She is a constant reminder that I can do anything, and if I ever find myself an Ann Perkins, I will never let her go. (I’m surrounded by a lot of Leslie Knopes and Ron Swansons, to tell you the truth.) Ann is sassy and smart, and is also someone I would choose to emulate.
This perfect crew of people is the perfect reminder that your job, while not your entire life, can definitely be amazing. If you’re struggling, find someone you can channel, be it Leslie Knope or someone else completely, and plow through the day with them in your heart. I know you can do it! You’re the best.
