I absolutely love the piano in this song, I need to take some time to learn it. I always thought it was an original 10,000 Maniacs song but I learned today it was actually written and released by Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen.
10,000 Maniacs covered it in October of 1993 during a performance on MTV Unplugged. This live version became a single and reached #11 on Billboard’s Hot 100. It was the first time that the group made it into the Top 40 chart as well. It also went to #7 on Hot Modern Rock Tracks and to #9 on Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks.
