Beauty // What is a Facial Peel?
When it comes to skincare, it is certain that I love scrubs and masks, but, I had always been cautious of peels, as I imagined having to leave the house with a scaly, peeling facial skin. When the Murad Intensive-C Radiance Peel came in my October 2016 Look Fantastic Beauty Box, which you may have seen on my Instagram, I tentatively decided to give it a go.
What is a Facial Peel?A Facial Peel is a cosmetic, chemical treatment that aims to reduce the appearance of blemishes or skin irregularities on the face. There are two types of Facial Peel: i. Commercial Facial Peels, which can be purchased at drugstores or beauty stores.ii. Professional Facial Peels, which is a deeper peel that require the recommendation of a dermatologist and may be performed by a plastic surgeon.* My focus here is on commercial facial peels.
How to Use?Every Facial Peel has its mode of use written on the pack or on the leaflet that comes in the pack. The Murad Intensive-C Radiance Peel has its use instructions as: "Massage evenly over clean face, neck and chest. You may experience a slight tingling sensation. Leave on for up to 10 minutes. Rinse with a warm wash cloth and pat dry."I followed the direction of use on the pack and I will say I anticipated it to be very intense, but it applied like a lightweight creamy moisturizer. As a first timer with a peel I can say I really appreciated it didn't apply differently from what I'm used to. The tingling sensation I experienced was relaxing and lasted about 2-3 minutes.I use it once a week.
Benefits of Using a Facial PeelThe benefits of doing a facial peel include:* Reduction of age spots, freckles and melasma*Reduction of fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth*Treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging*Facial peels are an accelerated form of exfoliation to revitalize skin tone and improve texture thereby improving the look and feel of the skin.Personally, I love the feel/texture of my skin after each use and my skin has gotten some smoothness that I'm still contemplating.
Precautions1. After a Facial Peel, skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so wear sunscreen everyday.2. People with sensitive skin should consult a dermatologist before trying out a chemical peel.3. Facial peels should be followed by an oil-free moisturizer.
