Beach Day

By Tasneem Rajkotwala @tasu0704

Dubai is going through phases of weather change since last one week. This winter we had not been to the beach at all mostly because we were in India on vacation for two months and then when we came back, it used to be hot on the weekends so never got a chance! Last Friday weather was perfect – cloudy, gloomy ,not very cold  and UAE also experienced a storm in the evening!! We decided we head over to the beach as soon as we woke up in the morning before summer and heat hit us in the coming months. You see it is opposite here – it is not preferable or advisable to spend time at beaches and parks because of the high levels of humidity and sunshine the desert is exposed to. There are number of beaches in Dubai but Al Mamzar beach park is very close to where we live and so enticing; it is one of the best locations for us to spend our weekends. It has an open beach as well as the beach with park. Beach + park is incredibly green and colorful with trees and flowers all around so we generally prefer that on most of the occasions. It is also very special to us because Little A had his first photshoot in the park when he was about four months, but that is completely a different story! When we entered, park was full with people fixing their tents, preparing for barbecues and children running around. Beach was also buzzing with people of all ages and nationalities. Lot of them were soaking their bodies in the warm sun for a good tan. I love the beaches here – water is bluish green and so crystal clear you can notice sand and water sliding between your toes. Little M and hubby went in the water for a brief period of time. I noticed  many people were not in the sea but chose to lie on the sand while children played around them. We were then informed by two men standing on the shore that there are jelly fishes in the water  and are on the biting spree. We were lucky, Little M didn’t had any injury but hubby had a minor rash on the leg for which they were also providing a lotion for the itching to subside. There was one child whose hand was swollen by their stings. It was a very pity sight to watch him in pain.  Having nothing else to do, we made a sand castle and decided to go back home after spending a good one hour thirty minutes! Hubby was a little disappointed as he didn’t get to spend much time in the water as he had expected. I was left feeling relaxed and refreshed! While we walked down towards the exit, there was so much beauty for our eyes to see, we couldn’t help but take halts every few minutes and appreciate it.

I leave you with the pictures from that weekend on the beach -
