I learned at an early age to appreciate the little things in life. Appreciating the little things makes way for the bigger things that you have to be thankful for. I am thankful for the good days and the bad days, as well as, life in general. It’s always amazing to me how some people get everything they wish for and still be the worlds most unhappiest people. I can’t answer why people end up unhappy but I do know that generally if you’re unhappy with yourself , you’re unhappy with the world around you as well. Find a quiet place and learn how to get to happy because happiness is where it’s at. I don’t spend my days smiling and greeting everyone and certainly my life is not without problems but I chose to be happy inspite of because no matter what problems we face, things always work out just as they should in the end.
At the beginning of this year I told myself that by time the holidays roll around I would not be single. I imagined that on this day I would be in a kitchen dry rubbing my turkey with cajun spices, shredding cheese for my macaroni, sipping wine, and stealing kisses from the love of my life. Well of course this didn’t happen, but I’m thankful for my baby who is by my side right now who would happily taste test anything I cook and will ask for seconds. My little fuzzy fella loves his momma! I am thankful for my great grandmother who left me this 117 year old house that I live in who also showed me that there’s more than one way of doing things. Ritz Crackers in banana pudding Big Mama…really? Because of her I invested heavily in cook books because obviously she couldn’t teach me how to cook a damn thing! I am thankful to my grandmother who taught me my independence and showed me that it is not a mans world, the lady can pick a couch up with one hand at 72 , her motto learn how to do shit for yourself. I am thankful for my sister who told me so many times she’s a psychic until I have no choice but to believe the shit, thae and last but not least my mother who laughs at everything and dances the cold duck everytime I play White Horse by the Dutch group Laid Back.
Life is full of ups and downs and although you may not accomplish all of the goals you set for yourself appreciate the goals you do accomplish. I appreciate all of the 86,400 seconds I get each day to live my life to the fullest and do the things that make me happy. We as humans sometimes forget that whatever it is you’re going through there’s someone out there with problems far greater than yours. I am grateful this year for family, friends, health, strength, and the ability to rock the hell out some stillettos Don’t dwell on your problems, work on your solutions and be thankful for the little things in life that makes us smile each day.
