In this week’s Batman Eternal, we get ti spend some time in Brazil with Batgirl. She is fighting off a woman who turns out to be Serqet who is a play on the Greek goddess. Batgirl is after a television star that apparently was at the the train crash that Gordon is blamed for. After trying to escape with the TV star, he falls from her grasp but is caught and picked up by Starfire with direction from Red Hood. Jason sent in a specialist to take care of Serqet. This specialist was the Batman of Argentina (another Batman I was unfamiliar with). We also get more Stephanie Brown in this book as well as a touch on Julia Pennyworth. Stephanie is researching the origin of her father/villain known as Cluemaster. The opening and ending of the book has Selina Kyle reading a note from her father by his graveside in the rain. The end is the only part where Batman shows up in present time and says all of about 2 lines.
While it was nice to see Batgirl in action and some more Stephanie Brown, this has to be the weakest issue thus far in my mind. I for one am NOT a fan of the art from Ian Bertram. While the characters actually have eyes compared to last issue, the style of art is not my cup of coffee. I guess this is the catch 22 you get with a weekly book. You stay consistent with the story writing but the art consistently changes up. I like the consistency of an artist on a book as it keeps with the flow of the story but I will make an exception for the story. This was a bit of an all female story so if you are a fan of the characters mentioned, go and check it out for yourself.
