BATMAN 66 MEETS THE GREEN HORNET #2 Review

Posted on the 04 June 2014 by Geekasms @geekasms

Chapter 2 picks up right in the train car where we last left Bruce Wayne in the first issue.  He is confronted by Colonel Gumm and his goons as they were stealing the fossils off of the train.  BOOM! Down comes the door and The Green Hornet and Kato come in to save Bruce Wayne.  Just in time, Bruce hears the sound of the Batcopter and see Robin hanging from the ladder with a briefcase.  A clever exchange of words in case someone overhears them and Bruce has the Batman costume and is ready for action.

As The Green Hornet and Kato are fighting Gumm’s thugs in the train car, Colonel Gumm escapes to the roof only to be faced with the Dynamic Duo.  The Green Hornet and Kato make their way up and now Gumm is surrounded.  After Batman explaining who this villain was, Colonel Gumm explained the story of why he looked the way he does and how he ranked himself up and is now General Gumm.  Quick on the draw, Gumm locks all four of their feet to the top of the train car and has it start to move towards a tunnel.  This is where we get the cliff hanger ending like the first episode of the TV series.

This was more of an explanation chapter to me.  I wasn’t familiar with Colonel Gumm before this story.  I must have missed those episode(s) (but will watch them once the series comes out on Bluray). There was plenty of 60′s charm and wit in this story so don’t be weary of that.  Since I read these digitally, I am a week ahead of the print world.  Issue 1 in print came out today but I try to stay ahead of the game.  One thing I didn’t get when purchasing this book was the beautiful Alex Ross cover seen below.  I saw that image a few months back when they were teasing the series and now it makes perfect sense.  I still enjoy the Batman 66 series and this special run makes no exception to my thoughts.  Kevin and Ralph are doing an excellent job and I would love to see more of their ideas and stories in the future.
