BATMAN #29 Review

Posted on the 15 March 2014 by Geekasms @geekasms

The Dark City arc within the Zero Year story line concludes…and in what amazing fashion.  This book was such a page turner and I was glad it was over-sized (32 pages) from a standard comic book. I cannot begin to tell you how awesome this book was.

Since the Zero Year arc began, I have been waiting to see how Scott Snyder is going to put his stamp on the infamous origin of such a well know character.  Up until now, I have enjoyed every second of the story.  It is continually interesting and well thought out.  The Riddler has cut the power to Gotham City and is using his smarts to out think the GCPD as well as Batman. It is hard to talk about this book without spoiling anything and I don’t want to do that.  We do get to see a very important part of Bruce’s past through the eyes of this creative team. This book NEEDS to be read. Period.

It is beautiful in all aspects.  From Scott Snyder’s well written story to Greg Capullo’s excellent pencils. Throw in Danny Miki’s crisp inks and the gorgeous colors from FCO Plascencia and you have and wonderful piece of art.  Every page was stunning! You can tell from the colors of the pages where you are in Bruce’s point of life.  There are wonderful homages to past works from the Batman universe that make me smile.  What was kind of cool to me was coming across a panel in the book that I got to see as it was getting worked on.  Greg Capullo is always tweeting pics of his drawings as he is working on them.  Always nice to see it at the beginning and the end.

If you have not already read this, do it! Zero Year should be wrapping up in a few months.  You can catch up on the first books in the mean time if you need to.  I can’t wait until next month because I am sure it will only get better.
