Basic Facts About TCA Peels

By Peppertan

There are many products on the market and available from your dermatologist to help with sun spots, acne scars, and other skin discoloration problems. TCA peels are used to help revitalize your skin. Here are some basic facts about the process that will help you know if this is the right option for you to rejuvenate your skin.

Uses

This procedure is a medium-strength chemical peel. It is meant to cause the skin to physically peel, which helps to improve skin texture, discoloration, and reduce fine lines. The chemicals work to cause the skin to peel for a few days, which cleans out clogged pores and refines the skin’s surface. This process is usually done on the hands, neck, or face.

Who Does Them

This type of peel can be done at home, however, it is recommended that a professional does one first. Dermatologists, aestheticians, and plastic surgeons can all do this procedure. Higher concentration peels should be administered by a professional. This will help prevent any misunderstanding of instructions and help the skin build up tolerance if you choose to do one at home later.

What to Expect

This type of peel can cause some serious skin peeling, so you’ll want to make sure you have seven to ten days of work off. The professional doing the peel will advise you on which products to stop using on your skin before the peel takes place. During the peel, the skin will tingle and turn hot. The burning is uncomfortable, but shouldn’t be unbearable. After the peel is neutralized, the skin is gently cleaned and an antibiotic cream is placed on the skin. The skin will turn red and possibly swell. Throughout the following days, the skin will get dry wrinkles and eventually start to peel. The peeling usually starts around day five and will last another five days or so. Throughout this process, you’ll need to avoid the sun, moisturize the skin, and drink a lot of water. The skin will gradually improve over the next few weeks. It may take more than one treatment to get the full effects of TCA peels.
