That doesn’t mean you have to pull out a vintage bustier and start wearing a ruffled collar,
but it does mean you can start wearing your grans curtains with style. This is an exciting development in the fashion trends as it brings the top favourites of the years past and pulls them all together.
Think high-collared shirts, embroidery, florals, studs and of course not forgetting a little lace and put it all in the mix to create a sophisticated yet edgy new style that will be sweeping through the high street stores through the coming months.
Dolce & Gabbana’s A/W 2012/13
Key lovers of this trend include Moschino, Balmain and Dolce & Gabbana. The trend includes slim-fitting silhouttes with powerful but not over the top shoulders and a mixture between feminine and soft, with that touch of gladiator. As I said before, all our favorite trends rolled into one.
The key pieces in my opinion include Dolce & Gabbana’s tapestry dresses and handbags, they have that air of chintz with the feel of a vintage knitting bag you might pick up from a charity shop, but being the legends D&G are, they turn the fabric into something elegant, something desirable and more importantly, something wearable. As I am sure everyone reading this will want to get their hands on one of D&G’s fabulous tapestry bags, you can order one online from Neiman Marcus from a healthy sum of $3,050.

A natural step (excuse the pun) from handbags to shoes, leads us onto a beautiful pair of peep-toe shoe boots, that would make any 17th century socialite weak at the knees. Balmain’s beautifully embellished boots will set you back £3,100 but if you are lucky enough to be able to snatch up a pair, then you can find them instore at Harrods. They haven’t just stopped with shoes though, Balmain’s collection of Baroque dresses are really something to talk about. They have that amazing tapestry pattern internally but include studs and strong shoulders which makes it more of a gladiator style. Also I like the way Balmain has stepped away from the gaudy colours and kept it neutral, another top collection.
Finally I’ll just touch on Moschino’s fantastically Baroque dresses, as gaudy as you can get but without losing their fashionable edge. This collection is yet another success with just the palette of black, white and gold that never grows old. Even bearing in mind the obtuse print, the dresses still seem somewhat simple and effortless. Top marks.
Now for most of us, designer prices are just not affordable, but I’ve been good to you and done the hard work for you and put together a range of pieces that you can pick up from the high street for a fraction of the price, I know I will be!
Most fashion eras get a revival and after waiting 400 years to surface, it is time to rock out with our Baroque out!
