:)

I’m a big lover of reading. I read daily and make sure that the kids do too as it’s so very important. Books, books, more books, never enough books and of course not enough shelf space to house them. Digital books are coming a long way to fulfilling my need to read … and also eliminating storage issues  … BUT the turning of pages of a hard copy book is still a wondrous feeling. Joy!

Storage of print books is one problem, cost is another. The purchase price of both hard cover books and paperbacks has jumped astronomically over the past few years, making them almost a luxury item. If you are not lucky enough to have a well stocked local council library, then online shopping for books has become the most economical way to source a good read.

Booko is my go-to place for sourcing the cheapest online price for a new book, or a specific title/author. It’s an excellent resource and you’ll be amazed at the price difference between some booksellers. Whoa, it’s an eye-opener for sure!

BUT if you are not looking for a specific book and just browsing for something of interest I doubt you could go past All Books 4 Less. Most of the books in the range sell for the flat rate of $5 (yep, $5!) and that pile of books up there in the picture cost me the grand total of $46! ($45 for the books and $1 postage)

Downside

  • although there is quite a significant number of titles, there is no-where near the range available in traditional booksellers
  • organisation of the site means lots of sifting and browsing although the search function works well
  • tends to be older titles where there has been an overrun and so if you are looking for the latest best-seller you probably won’t be in luck
Upside
  • incredibly swift service – that pile of books was on my doorstep within 3 days of ordering
  • the value – most books are a flat $5, some are $10 and some again are even on sale for less – look no further for a bargain book!
  • lots of interest areas are catered for and there is a wide enough range of titles – you’ll be sure to find something to please
I’m a big fan of gifting books and considering the price and service, this will be surely somewhere that I check out often to see what they have. Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet? Are you giving the gift of reading?

Bargain books for Santa’s sack is a great idea this Christmas!
