Bangladesh are set to become the first international team to visit Pakistan since the terror attacks on Sri Lankan team in March 2009 as their board has agreed to in principle to send their team for a short limited-over series next month.
The attack on Sri Lankan team’s bus, in which eight people were dead and seven visiting players alongside their assistant coach sustained injuries, suspended the international cricket in Pakistan, who staged their ‘home’ series on neutral venues since then.
However, Bangladesh’s latest commitment has lightened up the Pakistan’s hopes to nestle their bleak grounds again with BCB ensuring the tour after getting security clearance.
The short tour is likely to be consist of a solitary one-day international and a Twenty20.
“We have in principle agreed to tour Pakistan. It’s a commitment made by former BCB president Mustafa Kamal. We are keeping his word,” BCB head of cricket operations Enayet Husain Siraj, told AFP. The tour is subject to security clearance.”
BCB had earlier made the commitment to send their team to Pakistan for a short series in April this year in a bid end up their international exile In this regard a BCB delegation, headed by Mustafa Kamal, had also visited Pakistan but the tour was postponed after the verdict of Dhaka High Court against the tour.
