Not long ago I got an email from Baker Days asking if I’d like to try one of their new Letter Box cakes*, and at that moment my life was made. Someone wanted me to try their cake, as if anyone in their right mind wouldn’t be pleased about that! The concept of the Letter Box cake is that at 5 inches in diameter it’s small enough to fit through your letterbox, meaning you or the special person you’ve sent one too will get a lovely surprise along with their regular mail! I actually think this is a genius idea, if your family member or friend lives away and you won’t be able to spend their birthday celebrating with them, sending them a letterbox cake would be a lovely little surprise for them :)

I was a bit unsure at first about how it would taste, and if it would even hold up in transit! But my worries were for nothing as the cake arrived in perfect condition. The cakes come in their own cute little cake tin to protect them, and are then in the cardboard box they get delivered in. The cake itself is 2.5 inches high, and the sponge is kind of ‘stuck’ to the board it’s on with a layer of icing so it doesn’t budge. It tastes pretty darn good too! I got chocolate which isn’t a flavor I’d usually choose but it was delicious, not too rich or sickly but still lovely and moist. The only thing I would say is if I was going to get one myself I’d go for one of the more plain designs, maybe white with a small pattern on, just because any little distortions on the pattern won’t be as noticeable. Along with the cake you get a couple of balloons, candles and a one of those noisy party things you blow into, I have no idea what they are called but it’s a lovely touch!

You can get your own Letter Box cake from Baker Days, or send the link to someone else and give them a few *hint hints*!
