Back at It ….

Back at it ….

This time last week the kids and I were jetsetting off to Sydney for a little family holiday. It really was a fun break away and, if truth be known, I have a wee little fantasy of one day being affluent and mobile enough to live there part of each year. There is something about Sydney that absolutely enchants me and an apartment …. overlooking the harbor of course …. where I could retreat to each summer for weeks on end would be a big bit of love on a stick for me.

It’s so very interesting how a family holiday can leave each person with different memories. Although my three youngsters and I traveled and experienced the same vacation and saw the same sights, upon reflection we each have vastly different take-aways from Sydney …

Asked about her holiday, Baby Girl will tell you she loved …

  • being on the plane in the sky
  • putting balls into the mouth of the funny clowns
  • pushing the buttons to the lift and the buttons to cross the road

Meanwhile, Middle Young Man best liked …
  • walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge
  • taking photos (more than 850) on his iPod
  • swimming at Bondi Beach despite the fact he didn’t need rescuing nor were they filming!

Different again from the memories my Big Boy brought home. His favorite memories of Sydney are …
  • slurping on the BEST hot chocolate from the Lindt shop
  • haggling at Paddys Markets
  • hanging out with Obama at Madame Tusseauds
  • seeing the Apple Store (even though he is a Windows man through and through)
Back at it ….

And finally, what I loved most about our Sydney getaway …

  • the busyness of the city – the sirens, the footsteps, the noises
  • the history of this city – the solemness of the memorials and statues, the majesty of the architecture, the voices of the past which can be heard at The Rocks
  • the fact that we all made it home in one piece
    ;)

Well that’s enough of the holiday self-indulgence and it’s now time to snap out of it, and snap to it, as we’re home and back at it. How do you settle back into your regular daily life after a busy holiday with the family?
