Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has been elected as the 19th speaker of the National Assembly.
Ayaz Sadiq secured 258 out of total 313 votes cast. Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Shehryar Afridi obtained 31 votes while Muttahida Qaumi Movement candidate S.A Iqbal Qadri bagged 23 votes. One vote was declared invalid.
Outgoing speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza administrated the oath of Sadiq, who defeated PT chief Imran Khan from NA-122 constituency to become the member of the lower house of parliament for third time.
Earlier today, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) withdrew its candidates for the posts of speaker and deputy speaker in the National Assembly in favor of PML-N.
