Pop singer Avril Lavigne and fiancé Chad Kroeger of Nickelback made their engagement public Tuesday night and jetted off to Vegas to celebrate their engagement!
The engagement announcement proved to be shocking for Avril’s fans and the paparazzis as the courtship was out of the limelight for six months.
Kroeger, 37, proposed to his girlfriend of six months on August 8 with a 14-carat diamond engagement ring. Avril, 27, accepted the proposal and has been planning her wedding ever since. Families of both Avril and Chad are thrilled by the news.
The “Complicated” singer first met Chad while co-writing a song for Lavigne’s forthcoming fifth studio album.
“A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together,” a close friend of Lavigne told PEOPLE. “He makes her so happy. Both of their families could not be more excited,” the source added.
Though the “I’m With You” hitmaker has not commented directly on the news, she has retweeted a simple “thanks” to all the comments of congratulations from fans.
This will be Lavigne’s second marriage who wed Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley in July 2006 followed by a split in 2009. Later Lavigne went on to date reality TV star Brody Jenner for two years until January 2012. Chad has never previously been married.
