So, for ages now I've heard about the wonders of the Caudalíe Beauty Elixir and, after a very hot and clammy trip on the London Tubes, with my good friend Khila, I experienced the wonders of said product. With just a spritz my skin felt immediately refreshed and the scent, I thought, was quite therapeutic. I have never used this product long term so can't really comment on long term skin benefits, but it was definitely a product I was interested in knowing more about.
I decided to look for something a little cheaper, so on a recent trip to boots I picked up a can of the Avéne Eau Thermale. At £6.50 for a 150ml can, in comparison to £28.80 for 100ml of the Caudalíe, price wise the Avéne wins hands down.
The Avéne Eau Thermale is made for sensitive, irritated and allergic skin and is designed for use for things such as: sunburn, razor burn, to complete make-up removal, after exercise and to set make-up.
So far I have only used this to set and refresh my make-up during the day, and I really like it. I often get to about mid-afternoon and, especially in this warm weather, my make-up starts to feel a bit sticky and I get the urge to take the lot off. If I just give my face a quick spray with this and let it dry for about 30 seconds it really makes a massive difference to the way my face feels and the way my make-up looks. It's completely scent free so it's impossible to find it offensive in that way, although the scent is one of the reasons that I like the Caudalíe, but I can make my peace with that!
The spray doesn't soak your face, which is something that I was quite concerned about. If you just hold the can about 30cm away from your face and spray, the product distribution is perfect. The only thing that I'd say that lets this product down is the packaging. The big aerosol can is a little bit large and cumbersome and I much prefer the Caudalíe packaging. That being said, I think the Caudalíe is a glass bottle so in fact to just throw in the bottom of my bag the Avéne is probably more practical!!
I'm not going to tell you that I'm not still tempted to purchase the Beauty Elixir, because I am, but for now I'm very happy with this product. I may however make a cheeky purchase of the limited edition Caudalíe grape water!
