Audemars Piguet is becoming a regular in Michael Bastian’s Fashion Week show. 2013 marks the third year of Piguet’s participation. The Fall/Winter 2013 collection was presented at FOCUS: Cafe’ Rouge, where several new items from Audemars Piguet’s collection were on display. Pieces included the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph 44mm and the Royal Oak Offshore Diver. While this was the third time Piguet has been included in Bastian’s show, this was the first time either of the watch models on display had been crafted in ceramic.

The Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph features a black ceramic case with a sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, titanium caseback and a screw-locked crown. The dial features a “Me’ga Tapisserie” pattern with hours marked in white gold and a black inner bezel ring. The Royal Oak Offshore Diver features many of the same design elements like a black ceramic case and a sapphire crystal. Both pieces are self-winding, and both are magnificent takes on the idea of a luxury watch.

Michael Bastian is no stranger to Audemars Piguet’s creations; Bastian’s personal watch is a Royal Oak Chronograph crafted from stainless steel. Named the 2011 CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year, Michael Bastian found inspiration for this season’s designs in the work of Andrew Wyeth. The American painter offers a unique vision of New England and Maine, created with a watchful, examining eye from a palette of darker tones. Bastian translated this vision into a collection that features darker tones than those of past years. Blacks, olive, indigo and red were present throughout the designs, with some lighter hues added for effect.

In an anecdote about Audemars Piguet, Michael Bastian took the time to compliment his vision for creating the first luxury sports watch from stainless steel. Bastian noted his fondness for Piguet and an appreciation for Piguet’s understanding of true luxury.
