This week’s artist on the rise is James Keogh known by his stage name Vance Joy. Born on December 1st 1987, Joy is an Indie-Pop and Indie-Folk Australian singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Victoria. Joy began his career when he signed a five album deal with Atlantic Records in 2013. On March 22, 2013, He released his debut EP “God Loves You When You’re Dancing” that same year. The single “Riptide” became a success on Australian commercial radio, peaking at number 6 on the ARIA Singles Chart.
Not only was the song a hit in Australia, but it’s become a hit throughout Europe, United Kingdom, Canada, and the US. In the US, “Riptide” has reached number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Alternative and Rock Airplay charts. In early 2015, it was announced that Vance Joy would perform at the Boston Calling Music Festival. Regardless of his short years of singing, Joy has had a wonderful beginning for his music career. If his journey is anything like his first few years we can only expect great things from him.
