This week's artist on the rise is band Foster The People. Foster the People, is an American band formed in Los Angeles, California in 2009. They are an Indie Pop, Alternative Rock, Indietronica, Alternative Dance, Neo-Psychedelia composed of three members, Mark Foster, Jacob "Cubbie" Fink, and Mark Pontius. They mainly focus on the indie and pop genre even though they have a variety of genres they work with.
The band was first noticed in 2009 after spending several years in LA as struggling musicians and working as commercial jingle writers. The band became a viral success in 2010 with their song "Pumped Up Kicks". Within the year the group received a record deal from Startime International and gained a fan base through small club shows and appearances at the music festivals Coachella and South by Southwest. their first debut album "Torches" was released in May 2011, with their song " Pumped Up Kicks" becoming a crossover hit on commercial radio and reaching number one on Billboard 's Alternative Songs chart. " Pumped Up Kids" also reached at number three on the Rock Songs chart, and the Billboard Hot 100, along with a few other lists.
