I’d like to share a new program that I started at my school this spring called the “Art Hall of Fame”. It came about from seeing some breathtaking student work that I didn’t want to see just disappear into backpacks. I’ve learned that these pieces of art don’t always get made right before official art shows, so I started choosing 1 or 2 pieces a month myself, and had them scanned and printed in a large format at Staples. They have new color printers that make really true color vinyl prints, and cost $5 a square foot. This piece cost $20 to print, will have the artist’s name added underneath, and stay on display in our school office for the year. I like how it puts a spotlight on how incredibly beautiful kid’s art can be, with color and charm that can rival any professional. Not always, of course, but more often than most realize.
