Armorik Classic Single Malt is a French Whisky and historically, I haven’t had too favorable of opinions of the whisky from France. French wine is great, I love cognac and armagnac and I’ve had some great liqueurs and eau de vie from France, but French whisky has been a bit of a stumbling block for me. The most notable disasters have been Bastille and Brenne, but I’m happy to say that is not the case with Armorik.
Hailing from the Brittany region, Armorik Breton Classic Single Malt is distilled by Warenghem who also makes beer and other spirits. Warenghem is well known thorughout France and the UK, but is relatively unknown here in the USA. Though lately they’re making more noise and I’ve started seeing and hearing about them more and for good reason. They’re bringing French whisky that’s actually worth trying and drinking to America.

Armorik Classic Single Malt Review
EYE
Honey in the morning
NOSE
Vanilla and malty sweetness accompanied by some nice fruity notes, a touch of spice, citrus and marzipan. It’s not complex, but it’s well structured and solid.
PALATE
Honey and malty fruit come first followed by notes of spice, vanilla and a light citrus. Again, it’s not wildly complex, but it has a great solid character to it and well developed flavors.
FINISH
Medium fade of honey, fruit, malt and vanilla.
BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
It may not be complex, but it sure is balanced. Full body with an oily texture.
OVERALL
The Armorik Classic Single Malt may be basic, but it’s incredibly well put together. This is one of the few whiskies where I can say the experience of drinking it is the best part. Not the aroma, not the flavor, but how they fit together like bricks in short but sturdy column. It’s a solid sipper that seems just as at home with a meal or an afternoon with friends as it is with a recliner, a good book and dog on your lap. It’s a basic yet satisfying whisky.
SCORE: 82/100
