Are You Ready for a Picnic?

By Homesmsp @HomesMSP

Summer weather might actually come before the solstice here in the Twin Cities.  After a rough winter most of us will truly revel in the sunny skies that are sure to be here soon.

Sunday afternoon picnics with the family will be fabulous and there are many, many, many places to do that. In fact, Minneapolis was named the best city park system in the country for 2013... in fact, 94% of residents are within a 10-minute walk of a park!

It makes me smile when I think of Highway 100 being not just a highway but a destination where people would go to picnic in the roadside parks built in 1939.

Today we have a plethora of parks throughout the metro area. Here is a list of just a few... and be sure to look in your neighborhood, there might be a picnic spot just 10 minutes away!

Hidden Falls Park - 1415 Mississippi River Blvd. S. in St. Paul

This park has wonderful views of the bluffs along the Mississippi and many trails that are family friendly.  It's a lovely spot.

Minnehaha Falls Park - 4801 S. Minnehaha Park Dr. in Minneapolis

On the other side of the river from Hidden Falls Park, Minnehaha Falls Park has been a favorite of Twin Cities’ residents for many years. The 53-foot waterfall is spectacular and you can check out the beauty along the limestone bluffs and wooded trails along the Mississippi River. It has all the great amenities of most picnic spots, plus a concessions area and live concerts in the park’s band shell.
