Anoka County Fair is Hopping

By Homesmsp @HomesMSP

Have you been there? I've attended our Minnesota State Fair manyl times, but this year we got to see the Anoka County Fair. It helps to have grandchildren involved  there... it was an excuse to experience something new.

OK, the corndogs, brats, funnel cake and ice cream are, pretty much, the same as the State Fair and are still too good!! The flavor of the Anoka County Fair is much like the State Fair. Because it's smaller the "community" seems "bigger". Sharlene and I were outsiders so we could observe more. People were gathering everywhere, people knew each other, hadn't each other for a while and were happy to be together again.

Among other things we got to see the our grandson sing and dance with the 4H youth "Arts In" musical, held in the 4H building.  Young people from 2nd grade through senior high practiced the week before the Fair and performed a couple times most days during Fair week.  It was great to see all these kids together, enjoying the comradery and mentoring between many ages.  They all shared the same values of responsibility and service, while having fun!

4H stands for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health and their motto is,

I pledge my head to clearer thinking,
My heart to greater loyalty,
My hands to larger service,
and my health to better living,
for my club, my community, my country, and my world.

You can find out more about 4H at http://www.4-h.org/ or at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4-H

We had to leave before the tractor pull, but we saw some great people having a great time!

Check it out next year... it's a warmup for the Minnesota State Fair, the largest 1-day event in North America!
