Last month, issue #2 ended with Faith happily about to get her Slayer on.  Issue #3 continues straight from that last panel.  Unfortunately, what Faith is used to isn’t necessarily what is required in her new job with Deepscan.  Things aren’t as easy as “stick the pointy end into the heart”.  She is also finding out that not everyone likes having an A-List Slayer around.

Last time we spent more time with Faith and this issue is more about Angel.  He is starting to learn more about Magic Town thank to Nadira.  We are seeing a common thread with each of the leads working for someone instead of being in control themselves.  With Angel, he forms an uneasy alliance with Nadira that causes him to let go more than he wants.  We also see him, once again, run into someone from his past.

I’ve been impressed with Will Conrad throughout this series, but this issue has some really exceptional panels.  My favorite is one where it shows Angel from behind, his jacket flowing, the moon shining through the clouds.  It’s wonderful stuff and very atomspheric.  It continues as Angel battles the Glass Blower and it is really some of Conrad’s best work so far this “season”.

Gischler writes great dialog and definitely has the characters down.  I’m always waiting for that one line where he just nails the character and he does that once again here.
