And She’s Back on the Water, Too!

By Girlontheriver @girlontheriver

So, after some squadlist shenanigans I finally made it back on to the river this weekend. This is what I learned (or rather, remembered again, having forgotten during my prolonged break).

1. The river is just as beautiful in grey, windy drizzle as it is on a fine day.

2. If you’re in the bow seat, however, in grey, windy drizzle, you need something warm on your back. Sun would be nice. A gilet is more realistic.

3. Strokesiders are still complaining we’re down on their side. Bowsiders are still denying this. I’m saying nothing.

4. There is no exhaustion to match post-rowing exhaustion.

5. If you wake up the morning after your first row in three months with a stiff neck and splitting headache, it’s probably not meningitis. It’s much more likely to be your poor technique on the water. It’s best to remember this first thing in the morning and not late afternoon.

Ahhh, happy days. It’s good to be back.
