And Oscar Goes To : Thoughts About 2015 Oscars

I have Oscar predictions in draft folder for several days. In the end, I thought it’s too late so why not combine it with the thoughts about the show? I was pretty happy Neil Patrick Harris hosting the show, but wasn’t quite blown by his hosting. In general, I’m not surprised with the winners but I only thought Boyhood could win more. Let’s make it efficient. Here’s my detailed love/dislike of the results and show :

Love

  • Best dressed! Reese Witherspoon simple gown, Lupita Nyong’O pearly dress, and Emma Stone

  • The opening musical. Not a surprise Neil Patrick Harris would perform a musical. Though he seemed a little nervous, but who wouldn’t?
  • Funny how Ida‘s director strive to continue his speech when the music forces him to stop, totally broke the Oscars on not have to stop when the music plays
  • Love the energy of performance ‘Everything Is Awesome‘, the props and dancers, totally brighten up the atmosphere

  • That Yellow Lego Oscars is cute! I want one.
  • Patricia Arquette wins for Best Supporting Actress. Well deserved!
  • John Legend and Common win for Glory, OST Selma
  • Birdman wins for Best Cinematography, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture!
  • Though Steve Carell didn’t won, but I love that he pushed his border playing serious role in Foxcatcher
  • Love Eddie Redmayne’s shivering reaction & speech for winning Best Actor

The Bad

  • Hate to say this but, NPH hosting the show isn’t the best. It was a little dry. It’s better last year with Ellen DeGeneres.
  • Adam Levine performing Lost Stars – OST Begin Again, one of my favorite soundtrack 2014. But it seems he didn’t maintain his voice, for he couldn’t get the high notes
  • The Theory of Everything didn’t win for Best Score & Best Adapted Screenplay
  • Also, Felicity Jones didn’t won for Best Actress. I actually loved all the actresses in the Best Actress nominee, except Moore (I don’t know why, maybe because she’s in every 5 movie I’ve seen).

Surprises

  • Boyhood didn’t won Best Picture. It must be tough after 12 years on making it.
  • Not much surprises in the show really. It was a little flat.
