Signpost to Jupiter - Peter Liversidge At the weekend I went on a little adventure to Jupiter Artland. I’d seen some interesting photos on Instagram and decided it was finally time to go and have a look for myself. Situated just outside Edinburgh the gallery / park’s main focus is sculpture. Now, sculpture has never been something that has really captured my attention. I can name my favorite painters/illustrators/jewellers/designers but I would be hard pressed to name any sculptors, never mind ones I actually like. That has all changed now though. The variety of styles and subject matter on display meant that it would be almost impossible not to find a piece to be attracted to. In fact, I found a number of incredibly interesting works that will now count amongst my favourites.
Weeping Girls - Laura Ford Laura Ford's pieces were the ones that attracted me to Jupiter in the first place and were definitely my favorite of the park. I loved the way each girl interacted with the environment, with some leaning on trees and others hidden around them.
Life Mounds - Charles Jencks
On the way into the park we drove through this piece. A stunning landscape that was even more fun to walk around and explore.
The Light Pours Out Of Me - Anya Gallaccio
A thin corridor of steps takes you down into Anya Gallaccio's piecw, a room lined with amethyst. A truly beautiful place to be.
Banners - Jeremy Deller
This was my favorite of Jeremy Deller's banners, mostly because it made me giggle.Love Bomb - Marc Quinn
The key to this work was it's scale (which was quite difficult to capture in a photograph). We spied it on the road to the park and we kept glimpsing it as we walked around. Standing beside it made me feel like a tiny little ant.
Scaffold - Sam Durant
One of Jupiter's temporary sited sculptures, Sam Durant's piece may resemble a childrens play set but is based on a much darker history.
After seeing all that amazing work I think I’ve caught the sculpture bug and have already planned a trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for later this month.
Brooch - Garudio Studiage
And an adventure wouldn’t be an adventure without a souvenir. I brought this lovely brooch home with me. I love jewelry I can interact with and have already had endless amounts of fun adjusting my position on this tiny map.
