Amazon Surpasses Hulu and Apple in Streaming Video Usage

Amazon has jumped ahead of Apple and Hulu for number of streams from their Amazon Instant Video service.  That’s a huge accomplishment and I imagine those numbers will increase with the new Amazon Fire TV being released.  If you are not a member of Amazon Prime, you can get 30 days free and see what all the fuss is about!

The number of video streams on Prime Instant Video nearly tripled year over year

SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Apr. 8, 2014– (NASDAQ: AMZN)–Amazon Instant Video today announced that video streams on Prime Instant Video nearly tripled year over year. According to a report from Qwilt, which tracks growth in online video usage, Amazon has now passed both Apple and Hulu in streaming video usage.

Prime Instant Video offers a long list of exclusive and original content available only to Prime members for instant streaming at no additional cost to their Prime membership. The constantly expanding selection of exclusive hit series includes Downton Abbey24Orphan BlackThe Americans,JustifiedHannibalWorkaholicsGrimmUnder the DomeVeronica Mars and many others. Prime Instant Video also offers an exclusive collection of kids’ shows from Nick Jr. that customers won’t find on any other online-only subscription service, including favorites like SpongeBob SquarePants andDora the Explorer. Customers can enjoy both Amazon Instant Video and Prime Instant Video content on Fire TV, as well as hundreds of other compatible devices, including Kindle Fire tablets, iPad, PlayStation, Xbox, Wii, Wii U, Roku, TVs, set-top boxes, and Blu-ray players.
