Alternative Gemstone Engagement Rings

By Raymondleejewelers @raymondleejwlrs

Alternative gemstone engagement rings have become quite the trend in the bridal jewelry world. With more and more couples choosing to express their personal style, and many brides turning away from the traditional engagement ring. The diamonds that were so “necessary” thanks to De Beers in the 20th century, aren’t mandatory in the 21st.

Today, I’m noticing a trend in brides who prefer small, vintage style and vibrant gemstone engagement rings to a huge rock. The options for these treasures are pretty limitless, considering the huge amount of amazing vintage and antique engagement rings that feature gemstones, and their modern counterparts. There’s a style for every colorful bride:

Emerald and diamond engagement ring

First, this beautiful emerald take on the classic three stone ring style. With a bright green 1.80 carat emerald center stone and approximately .70ctw of diamond with an H/I color grade and VS clarity, this ring is beautiful in 14kt white gold.

Round bezel set emerald engagement ring

Another diamond and emerald beauty, this one is decidedly edgier, with a 14kt white gold and diamond bezel setting.

This gorgeous vintage pear shaped aquamarine is perfect for March babies! This birthstone is sturdy enough to be worn every day, and the diamond sunburst around it protects even a pear shape’s vulnerable point.

I love this modern interpretation of the aquamarine ring. An 18kt white gold halo delicately supports not only the .40ctw of white round brilliant diamonds, but a 2 carat checkerboard cut cushion shaped aquamarine.

Sapphire and yellow gold engagement ring

The classic sapphire and diamond engagement ring combo looks bold and bright in 14kt yellow gold and a timeless cathedral setting.

Garnet Ring

If you’re looking for moody and edgy, a deep red garnet is a strong contrast against the bright, 18kt white gold and diamond studded solitaire setting.
