Alive and Organic- Sciatu Lamp

By Vecie78 @NeverSayCool

Sciatu means “breath” in Sicilian dialect. It is used, also as an expression to call for a loved one (sciatu miu, my breath). With this concept interior and product designer Renato Belluccia wants to define his attachment for Sicily and its natural resources. Sciatu Lamp is born from a rotten prickly pear pad; treated and cleaned up, Renato adds an Arduino-powered sensor which will swicth the lamp on when you blow inside the plant.

Italian artist explains: “Every piece is unique and it can be identified by a code. Each code will guide you through the history of the plant, where it has been found, original pictures before treatment and the time it took to complete the job(around 2/3 weeks)”
