When Codie Prevost contacted Marthafied and asked if we would like to preview his new album ‘All Kinds of Crazy’ (out on March 1st on iTunes Canada and iTunes US), there only ever was one answer: Would we ever!! We are huge country music fans here at Marthafied and I keep going on about how we don’t hear enough great country music here in the UK. There is a big country music fan base here. That was clear after the huge success of the first ever Country 2 Country music festival at the O2 last year. (A complete sellout of two days of the best of country: Tim McGraw, Little Big Town and Carrie Underwood- and we were there!) But enough about that and more about Codie…

To me Codie Prevost is a great discovery. From the opening lines of ‘I’ll Be Your Whisky’ (When my doorbell rang at 2 am I knew he broke your heart again…) on his new album ‘All Kinds of Crazy’ to the last bittersweet chords of ‘Last Night All Day’, this is a fabulous feel-good country album. The kind you can pop into your car stereo, roll down the windows and let the world melt around you to the sound of ‘Someday’. I just name checked my favorite tracks, but believe me, this album will stay with you even if you are not a huge country music fan. Sometimes you just run into an album or an artist that is pure good music, no matter what the genre.

Growing up in Saskatchewan, Canada, Codie started playing guitar at an early age and soon got into bands. His first band wasn’t country but a punk band playing covers of Greenday and the like. I can totally hear the rock music influence in his writing. I think it’s that ability to cross over that’ll appeal to many music fans. He honed his country music skills by playing in bars before heading over to Nashville to record his first album which led to him being nominated for the Canadian Country Music Awards Rising Star in 2011 and 2012. To date Codie has released two studio albums: The Road Ahead (2005) and Get Loud (2010). The brand new ‘All Kinds Of Crazy’ album will get its official release on March 1, 2014.

Codie generously sent us the radio edit of his latest single ‘Someday’ to share with you guys, so be sure to download it from here for free and get to know Codie’s music.

Codie has played with such big country artists as Florida Georgia Line (‘Cruise’) and Big and Rich (‘Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy’) and I’m hoping his big time headlining tour won’t be far away. But back to the album…

To be honest with you, I don’t like album reviews because I know nothing about licks or chord changing or vocal runs but I know how music makes me feel. Sometimes when the weather is a perpetual insult and the winter darkness shoots night for day, I reach for a bit of Nashville sunshine and that’s what ‘All Kinds of Crazy’ is to me. The memory of  warm summer nights, the soft clink of ice cubes in your tumbler and the comforting thought there’s still holiday left and all you have to do is to sit still and enjoy this moment, that’s what ‘All Kinds of Crazy’ is to me. Addictions come in many forms, mine come in stone washed jeans with some good ol’ country music. I hope it’s sunny and warm where ever you are. Here’s Codie with my favourite track from his new album ‘All Kinds of Crazy’: Last Night All Day. Enjoy!
