Alastair Cook became youngest player to score 7000 Test runs
England skipper Alastair Cook on Thursday become the youngest ever player to complete 7000 runs in Tests.
The 27-year-old left-hander has taken Sachin Tendulkar’s title by accomplishing the milestone at the age of 27 and 347 days during the second day of the third Test against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The India great had achieved the feat at the age of 28 years and 193 days.
Cook has also become the first England played to score 23 centuries. He moved ahead of Geoffrey Boycott, Wally Hammond, Colin Cowdrey and his current team-mate Kevin Pietersen.
It was his fifth successive Test hundred as captain dating back to his time as Andrew Strauss’s deputy in Bangladesh in 2009.
At close of day 2, Cook was unbeaten for 136, hitting 19 boundaries and a six in his 236-ball knock.
