This grainy photo may seem unremarkable to most but I’m counting it as my first air-to-air photography session!  I haven’t had much luck in spotting aircraft in my vicinity during commercial flights but that changed last week when, during a United flight from SFO to Hawaii, my wife spotted a contrail outside our window.  Our 777 gained steadily on the Airbus as I got out my D7000 w/18-200mm lens, not ideal but loads better than an iPhone photo shot through scratchy Plexiglas.  Hawaiian Airlines names its individual aircraft and their fleet of Airbus A330-243 aircraft are named for Polynesian constellations used to sail to the islands.
