April 2026

During the 2026 Wings Over Solano airshow, I captured this Travis-based C-5M about to touch down after a flight demonstration. Travis Air Force Base currently hosts 26 C-5M Super Galaxy aircraft. Having taken many photos of C-5s previously, I decided to practice some slow shutter speed panning at 1/15 sec. Upgrades to the USAF fleet of fifty C-5Bs and two C-5Cs were completed by August 2018, these aircraft are now designated C-5M Super Galaxy. The C-5M is an upgraded version with new engines and modernized avionics designed to extend its service life beyond 2040.  Introduced in 1970, 131 C-5s were produced. While Lockheed was selected as the winner of the USAF contract in 1965, Boeing would go on and develop their design concept into the 747 airliner.
