Agent Carter One-Shot Was Marvelous.

I picked up Iron Man 3 last week and got around to popping it in yesterday to watch the special features.  I was really interested in the Agent Carter One-Shot and, I gotta tell ya, it blew me away.  I had heard that it was good, good enough that Marvel is rumored to be developing a series, but it was better than I had hoped.

It takes place a year after the events seen in Captain America: The First Avenger and Agent Carter is basically stuck behind a desk being under utilized.  Sexism was alive and well in the 1940′s and they drive that point home.  I won’t ruin anything, but basically Agent Carter takes matters in her own hands and goes on a mission by herself.  She takes on multiple baddies and the fight scene sets her up as quite a bad ass.  She even manages to throw in a great line or two just like any good superhero.  These events lead to a showdown with her sexist boss and a surprise guest star sets things in motion to utilize Agent Carter more effectively.  There is even a bonus credit scene that Marvel knows we all love so much.

After watching it, I immediately called my wife in to watch it because she loves anything that has, in her words, “girls kicking butt”.  Well, this short definitely has that…in spades.  Hayley Atwell was great in Captain America, but I didn’t see what would cause Marvel to consider having her as a lead in a series.  After watching this, I now understand.  In a matter of a few minutes, they moved this character forward leaps and bounds and I would watch the heck out of a series that was remotely like this.  It would be a great companion to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
