Many people just stick with mutual funds when investing and there is really nothing wrong with that strategy. But there are a lot of advantages to using individual stocks instead of using just mutual funds. You can create a portfolio of individual stocks to create and shape your own index instead of using one of the commercially available mutual funds. You can also just add a few individual stocks to your mutual fund portfolio to increase your returns or give you more flexibility and limit/delay your taxes. In this first post in the series, we’ll talk about different ways individal stocks can be used.
