It’s been a good year for rowing books, no doubt about it, with the brilliant Boys in the Boat and a bunch of other river-reads. And guess what? It just got better.
Since the book is (like me) pint-sized, the plot is pretty straight-forward, and none the worse for that. Daisy is a first year university student who urgently needs a rowing scholarship to pay the fees. She has two other big problems in her life – an ex-boyfriend who has destroyed her confidence and a looming 2k erg test at which she has to shine for the mysterious (and German) coach. Then she goes out on the water in a single and everything changes.
I loved this book. It’s sexy, it’s funny and it has a brilliant twist in the tail that had me laughing out loud (for the record, I don’t LOL). I galloped through it and it cheered me immensely on a miserable day when the rain wouldn’t stop, my dog was temporarily incontinent and I had to bury a dead chicken. Where even coffee and chocolate failed to bring a smile, this book did, so thank you, Bea.
In Too Deep is available as a Kindle, Apple or Kobo download and is a snip at £1.99.
