A Modern English Castle Wedding Blog – Felicity and Matthew at Old Wardour Castle

By Claire

English castle wedding Alexis Jaworski (2)

Felicity is amazing – I love her short hair and she’s one of the most beautiful brides I’ve ever seen wearing a David Fielden wedding dress. Matthew is her perfect partner, and looks gorgeous in his suit from Reiss. Do read their wedding report (below) for all the details and wedding suppliers from this Old Wardour Castle wedding, and also check out wedding photographer Alexis Jaworski. He supplied all of the images from this fab day – thanks Alexis!

Enjoy! Claire xxx

Wedding venue:

We got married at Old Wardour Castle in Wiltshire on 23rd March 2013.

We’re not religious so it would have been hypocritical to have a church wedding but we wanted to get married somewhere beautiful, something a bit different to a registry office. I’d joked about a castle, imagining that this would be impossible given our budget but then came across Old Wardour Castle on the English Heritage website. We first visited on a horrible rainy day last Autumn but we knew it was the right place and we found a gorgeous, cosy country pub with great food and extensive wine list (The Lamb at Hindon) down the road for the reception.

Wedding photographer:

Alexis Jaworski was our photographer at Old Wardour Castle. We found his website online and just really liked his style and approach. He was wonderful on the day: friendly, professional and we’re thrilled with the results.

Your wedding style and theme:

I knew I’d wear ivory and I wanted Matthew to wear navy (blue brings out his eyes!) but our eventual color scheme was decided when we found the bridesmaids’ dresses. There was a little bit of an A.A. Milne theme running through too – a friend read one of his poems and we had Winnie the Pooh quotes on the back of our place cards.

Invitations and stationery:

Matthew designed all of our stationery himself and tied purple ribbon on everything! I was thrilled with them and we had lots of compliments.

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

I wore the David Fielden “Wallis Simpson” dress with the tulle skirt. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it and didn’t want to take it off.

Glitz and sparkle: the bride’s accessories:

My navy satin court shoes were from Hobbs and I bought my earrings online.

The groom wore:

Matthew’s suit was from Reiss.

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girls wear?

These were a Coast sale bargain, not the color we expected when we ordered them online but we all loved them so they stayed!

Wedding flowers:

Sprout and Flower did our flowers and we hired hearts made from twigs from them too. I know nothing about flowers so just showed Sarah the color of dresses and had a chat with her and she did the rest. I was thrilled with the result!

The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?

We had black bottom cupcakes from Hummingbird Bakery because they’re amazing! We both hate fruit cake and weren’t willing to spend hundreds of pounds on a cake.

Wedding tips and advice:

Arrange the wedding you want to have, not the wedding other people expect you to have. We had just 23 guests so our wedding was very personal to us, felt intimate and we were able to chat to everyone.
