There's a place that my heart always longs for around this time every summer. I was really worried that I wouldn't have the opportunity to go to the place I go back to every summer...my grandparent's lake house in upstate New York. But my time off was approved. That news was some of the best that I've gotten this summer! Since before I can remember, my family has made the 12 hour drive to upstate to spend a week at the family lake house that my great grandparents built on Canandaguia lake all those years ago. The memories I've made there have been amazing ones. From family boat rides, to the Ontario county fair, to my grandfathers infamous pancakes (which I have to refrain from now due to allergies...darn gluten allergy,) every bit of it has made a huge impact on my life.
It's a tradition to watch and shout for the steam boat the takes daily trips around the lake for tourists, dinner guests, etc... "The Lady" has always been a grand part of the whole experience. I've even been on it once. My dad trains for his triathlons in the mornings while the rest of us are still waking up, my brother fishes off the dock, and my grandmother bakes something fantastic in the kitchen. This place tugs on my heart because it's a constant in my life. It's somewhere I dream of being able to bring my kids one day and hope to create memories with them (when I have kids some ways down the road.) During the summer on seventy degree days, my family and I always tell each other "yup, this is lake weather, we need to be there now." And with the weather being in the mid 70's for these last few days, it's about that time. I'm heading up to my favorite place on earth this coming Sunday and my heart is entirely too happy. The pictures above are excerpts from this past year's trip. That lake house is a forever tradition and I wouldn't change my time there or the world.xoBCC
